Kolkata rape-murder case, violence during BJP's Bengal bandh: Firing, bombs hurled at BJP leader's car in North 24 Parganas district
West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari joined the BJP's protest in Nandigram. Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday (August 27) appealed to Governor CV Anand Bose to impose President's rule in Bengal after police action on student protesters. He claimed that more than 160 protesters, including 17 women, were injured in the police action.
The BJP has called for a 12-hour bandh from 6 am today over the rape-murder case of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. Violence has taken place at many places in the state during the bandh. In Bhatpara of North 24 Parganas, BJP leader Priyangu Pandey claimed that people associated with TMC fired and threw bombs on his car.
Clashes broke out between BJP and TMC workers in Nadia and Mangalbari Chowrangi. The BJP accused the TMC of attacking their peaceful protest. Police have detained BJP workers in several cities including Kolkata, Alipurduar, South 24 Parganas.

Workers led by BJP MLA Ashok Kirtania stopped the train at Bangaon station in North 24 Parganas. Shops are closed in Siliguri, Bidhannagar. Bus services are affected. In many districts, government bus drivers were seen driving wearing helmets.
The BJP is protesting the detention of student protesters who took part in the Nabanna march on August 27. The party has named the protest 'Bangla Bandh'. The TMC is opposing the Bengal Bandh. The state government has ordered government employees not to join the bandh.
