Student's protesting for mamta banerjee to resign.
On Tuesday, student and labour organisations are marching to Nabanna to protest against the rape-murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata on August 8-9. Nabanna is the secretariat of the West Bengal government, where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and all ministers and officers sit.
West Bengal Student Society and Sangrami Jautha Manch have demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee through the Nabanna Abhijan rally. The protesting students marched towards Nabanna at around 12:45 pm. The protesters broke the police barricades at Santragachhi near Howrah. After this, the police lathicharged them.
Citing violence, the police has declared the rally illegal. To stop the protesters from going to Nabanna, a force of 6 thousand has been deployed in three layers on 7 routes. Barricading has been done at 19 points and DCPs have been deployed at 21 points.
The administration has closed the Howrah Bridge connecting Howrah to Kolkata. Drones are being used for surveillance. Water cannons, Vajra vehicles and Quick Response Team (QRT) are also deployed.
Section 163 of BNS (Section 144 of CrPC) has been imposed near the state secretariat Nabanna. No more than 5 people will gather here at a time.
