Twitter on Backfoot: Removed blue tick from personal Twitter handle of Venkaiah Naidu, restored shortly after; Accounts of many union leaders still unverified
Twitter removed blue ticks from personal Twitter handles of Vice President of India M. Venkaiah Naidu and several union leaders amid the ongoing controversy over the new IT rules. However, Twitter had to restore the blue-tick of Naidu's account within a short time as the controversy escalated. This was already ticked on the official handle of the Vice President's Office. According to the news agency, Naidu's account was not active for the last 6 months. Because of this his personal handle was unverified.
Twitter also unverified the Twitter accounts of several leaders of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). These include big names like Arun Kumar, Bhaiyaji Joshi and Suresh Soni. However, verified shows currently on the accounts of the Sangh chief and Sarkaryavah. Meanwhile, BJP Mumbai spokesperson Suresh Nakhua questioned the action of Twitter. He called it an attack on the Constitution of India.

The personal account of the Vice President is followed by 1.3 million people. There has been no tweet from his Twitter account for the last 11 months. This account was last tweeted on 23 July 2020.
