Bharat Biotech - No calf serum used in Covaxin; BJP asked, " Did the Gandhi family vaccinate, don't they believe Indian vaccine?"
Politics has now intensified on allegations of mixing calf's serum in Covaxin. When Congress leader Gaurav Pandhi shared an RTI saying that cows and calves are being killed for the manufacture of covaxin and the Modi government had to tell this first, the BJP became aggressive. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said that Congress is once again spreading confusion. Calf serum is not mixed with Covaxin.
Use Verocell, not calf serum: BJP
Sambit Patra held a press conference after the allegations of Congress. He said- Congress has alleged that Covaccine contains serum and blood of cow's calf. When we saw this promotion in social media, it was even written in it that this vaccine is being prepared by killing cows and calves. This confusion is being spread by Congress. Covaxin does not contain calf serum. Verocell is used in the vaccine. It acts as a fertilizer in a way. This Verocell wears out over time.
Bharat Biotech's answer - calf serum was not found
Covaxin maker Bharat Biotech has also issued its reply after the controversy surfaced. The company has said that the calf serum has not been used in the final dose of the vaccine being administered to the people. Bharat Biotech reported that the serum of the newborn calf was used to make the viral vaccine. It was used for cell growth but was not used for coronavirus, nor was it used in the final formulation.
