Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Bangladesh on March 26, 2021, for an official bilateral meet.

This was revealed by Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen to New Age Bangladesh on Sunday.

According to him, Prime Minister Modi has accepted the invitation extended by his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina.

She has invited Modi to visit Bangladesh for participating in the launching of the joint commemoration of the golden jubilee of the independence of Bangladesh and the establishment of bilateral relations between the two countries.

‘The crowning glory of our joint commemoration would be your presence in Dhaka for the celebrations on March 26, 2021,’ PM Hasina said in her statement in the virtual summit with Modi on December 17.

PM Modi was scheduled to visit Dhaka on March 17 to join in the birth centenary functions. The visit was, however, postponed amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

It will be the fifth bilateral meeting between the two prime ministers.

Last, they held a virtual bilateral summit on December 17 where the two leaders decided to take ahead the bilateral relationship by the signing of several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs).

Under its Neighborhood First Policy, India accords high priority to Bangladesh. The upcoming visit of the Prime Minister to Dhaka will open the doors for further cordial opportunities.

It will be PM Modi’s second visit to Bangladesh as he was in Dhaka for the first time in 2015.
